Shandong Provincial Library was founded in 1909, and is located at the bank of Daming Lake. Covering 10,400 square meters and comprising 4.03 million volumes, it is the center of library, information  and documents, automation development, business exchange and study in Shandong as one of the largest libraries in China.  The history of Shandong, the special collection in Hai Yuange, and the collection of works on The Book of Changes have won high reputation at home and abroad.  In June 1998, the new library was constructed with the new facilities of 25 research rooms, 15 study rooms, 2000 seats for reading, a spacious lecture hall, multi-function report hall and academic rooms.  It was open to provide good services at multi-level for society in October 1999.
