The press conference on Shandong Province`s 2007 college matriculation

The provincial government press conference is scheduled at 4 pm, August 18, 2007(Saturday), releasing information on the province`s college matriculation. Shandong on Internet will broadcast it live then. Please pay attention.

The press conference is chaired by Liu Baoju, deputy director of the Foreign Publicity Office of the Provincial Party Committee.

Liu Baoju: Good afternoon, friends from the media.

Liu Baoju: The annual college matriculation has been basically completed on the afternoon of August 17. In order to release the information concerned to the public at the earliest possible time, the Information Office of Shandong Provincial Government holds a news conference this afternoon to release information on the province`s 2007 college matriculation work.

Liu Baoju: Present at today`s press conference are Wang Tan, director of Shandong Provincial Educational Matriculation and Testing Institute, Zhang Zhigang, director of the Department of Matriculation and Testing for Regular Higher Education Institutions and Postgraduate Programs, Zhang Jiu, deputy director, and Guo Peiyan, section chief of the Department of Information Management.

Liu Baoju : Next, we invite Wang Tan, director of Shandong Provincial Educational Matriculation and Testing Institute, to give a briefing on this year’s college matriculation of our province.

Wang Tan: Through the joint efforts of all the matriculating staff, our province’s 2007 college matriculation was successfully completed yesterday.

Wang Tan: The following is a briefing on this year`s college matriculation of our province. 1. How the plan was fulfilled. Our province’s matriculation plan for regular higher education institutions is 416,491 people, of whom 182,275 are for colleges, and 234,216 are for professional training schools (tertiary vocational schools). The plan for matriculating secondary vocational school graduates is 23,700, of whom 1,600 are for colleges and 22,100 are for professional training schools. The total planned number is 440,191 people.

Wang Tan: The results of the matriculation.  Altogether, 478,132 students in our province were enrolled by regular higher education institutions in 2007 (including 23131 secondary vocational schools graduates). 200,418 were enrolled by colleges, and 277,714 were enrolled by professional training schools, an increase of 16,543 and 21,398 respectively as against the planned numbers.

Wang Tan: Of the total enrollment in colleges, 35,260 are arts candidates, 118,188 are science candidates, 36,134 are arts candidates enrolled in art specialties, 5815 are science candidates enrolled in art specialties, 3,413 are in physical education and 1,608 are secondary vocational school graduates.

Wang Tan: Of the total enrollment in professional training schools, 93,499 are arts candidates, 147,250 are science candidates, 12,471 are arts candidates enrolled in art specialties, 2,254 are science candidates enrolled in art specialties, 717 are in physical education and 21,523 are secondary vocational school graduates.
