[14:33:49, 7 May, 2009] Li Jianjun: Today, we hold a provincial government press briefing and have invited Mr. Zhang Guochen, director of the Provincial Civil Affairs Department, and Mr. Li Yuliang, deputy director of the Provincial Civil Affairs Department, to give us a briefing on Shandong Charity Congress and answer journalists’ questions.

[14:34:19, 7 May, 2009] Zhang Guochen: Good afternoon, media and friends. First of all, I’d like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to the media friends who have been caring for and supporting the development of Shandong`s charity cause over the years.

[14:34:26, 7 May, 2009] Zhang Guochen: In order to implement the spirit of the Second China National Charity Congress held on December 5, 2008, the Provincial Government and the Provincial Party Committee have decided to hold Shandong Charity Congress on May 11, 2009.

[7 May, 2009 14:35:05] Zhang Guochen: Since 2004, our whole province has raised a total of charitable money worth of 5.29 billion yuan.

[14:37:05, 7 May, 2009] Zhang Guochen: Now in the new situation in which social construction centers around accelerating the improvement of people`s livelihood, the charity cause, as an important complement to the social security system, is gaining more and more attention and support of the CPC Central Committee, and local Party Committees and local governments at all levels, and attracting the positive response and participation of all circles.

[14:38:12, 7 May, 2009] Zhang Guochen: In order to implement the spirit of the Second China Charity Congress and Secretary-General Hu Jintao`s important speech, to sum up the experience the fruits of the development of the Shandong charity cause, to recognize the units and individuals that have made outstanding contributions the Shandong charity cause in recent years, and to promote the development of our province’s charity cause, the Provincial Government and the Provincial Party Committee have decided to hold Shandong Charity Congress at Nanjiao Hotel, Jinan, at 9 o`clock on May 11, 2009.

[14:39:22, 7 May, 2009] Zhang Guochen: The theme of this session of Shandong Charity Congress is "Join hands for charity and create harmony".

[14:39:27, 7 May, 2009] Zhang Guochen: The congress will solemnly recognize "Shandong Charity Award" winners. This session’s "Shandong Charity Award" contains a total of five awards, that is, "the Most Loving Charitable Donation Enterprise", "the Most Loving Charitable Donation Individual", "the Most Loving Charity Model", "the Most Influential Charitable Project", and "the Outstanding Charitable Worker".

[14:40:34, 7 May, 2009] Zhang Guochen: The scope of selection covers enterprises, individuals, and charitable projects that carried out charitable activities and made outstanding achievements in our province in recent years. Recently, on the recommendation by various circles, the review of the Awarding Committee, and public notification, 155 "Shandong Charity Award" winners have been selected, of which 36 are "the Most Loving Charitable Donation Enterprise" winners, 48 are" the Most Loving Charitable Donation Individual" winners, 20 are " the Most Loving Charity Model" winners, and 24 are “the Most Influential Charitable Project" winners, and 27 are "the Outstanding Charitable Worker" winners. We hope that, through the selection and recognition, the spirit of charity will be further promoted, the charitable enthusiasm of the whole public will be stimulated and various circles will be encouraged to participate in and support the charity cause.
