Li Jianguo was elected secretary of the Shandong provincial Party committee yesterday at a plenary session of the local committee.

Jiang Daming and Liu Wei were elected deputy secretaries.

Li previously served two terms as Party secretary of the Shaanxi provincial committee.

Li, 61, served in several government posts in the port city of Tianjin before being appointed Party chief of Shaanxi in 1998.
