QINGDAO: In the Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone (QETDZ), more than 60,000 sets of household appliances come off production lines daily.
The electronics and home electrical appliances produced here account for over 20 percent of the whole country.
According to the QETDZ Administration Committee, six industrial clusters including electronics and home electrical appliances, petrochemical, shipbuilding and repairing, new materials, high-tech, port and logistics have been formed in QETDZ.
Several large-scale industrial parks have been put into production, such as Haier Industrial Park with an investment of 5.8 billion yuan ($763 million), Hisense Information Industrial Park with an investment of 1.2 billion yuan ($158 million), and Aucma Industrial Park with an investment of 1.1 billion yuan ($145 million).
About 100 makers of household appliances and information technology products, such as Panasonic, Hitachi, Sanyo and Ricoh, now have operations in Qingdao.
Major manufacturing projects in QETDZ have been set up by multinationals and large enterprises in China, with 337 projects worth more than $10 million and 11 worth more than $100 million, including 50 in the World`s top 500.
A number of China`s top 500 enterprises established factories in the zone, such as China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, Baosteel Group and China National Coal Industry.
At present, the zone lays claim to more than 100 famous brand name products including 20 China Top Brands, two nation-wide famous trademarks and 38 Shandong Top Brands.
Many shipbuilding and repairing giants like Hyundai, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) and China Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) are investing in the development zone now. It has the ability to build various super large and high-tech ships and ocean engineering vehicles.
The Lidong chemical engineering project with a total investment of $489 million went into operation last year. It has become the biggest foreign invested development project in Shandong Province.
The 550,000 ton shipyard is put into use in the Haixi Bay Ship Building and Repairing Base, which cost 7.4 billion yuan ($974 million).
Automobile and mechanic industries represented by Shanghai GM`s Wuling are developing rapidly. Presently, about 40 manufacturers of cars and parts have settled in the development zone.
