A 4-month-old infant has died after receiving a pneumonia and meningitis vaccine in Liaocheng, Shandong province, prompting the local health bureau to order all city hospitals to stop the use of the vaccine.

A local health bureau official said yesterday that the child was vaccinated against haemophilus influenza type B, or Hib, at the Chinese Medicine Hospital in Liaocheng on Oct 19. The vaccine was made by Wosen Biotechnology Co in Yuxi, Yunnan province.
