On his way home, Chou, a man in Jinan, Shandong province, found 100,000 yuan ($14,100) in banknotes on a street in a housing estate late last Wednesday evening and reported it to police.

The next day, police identified a man surnamed Wang as the owner of the money.

Wang had withdrawn the funds the day before to repay a loan from a friend. After dining with four friends in the evening, Wang placed the money on the top of his car when he opened the door.

Instead of collecting the money, he drove off. Only after he got back home did he realize that the money was missing and called police.

The money probably fell off the car when Wang drove up a hill.
