The first national activity to strengthen public awareness of ocean protection was launched by the State Oceanic Administration on Friday in Qingdao, the sailing venue of the Beijing Olympics.

Meanwhile, a contest on ocean knowledge was launched on Friday among secondary school and college students. Winners will have opportunity to take a field trip to the Arctic, Antarctic and Xisha Island, according to the administration.
