Beijing Feng Ze Yuan (丰泽园), a famous favorite haunt of Chinese state leaders in the 1950s, has just finished a major revamp and reopened its doors. The restaurant first opened in the 1930s, when it served high-end customers Shandong cuisine. Business declined during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), but its food retained its fame and popularity among Beijing gourmets. Among the most popular dishes is the braised sea cucumber with spring onion (葱烧海参). The brown sauce in the dish is a fine complement to steamed rice. Baby mullet soup with pepper (乌鱼蛋汤) is another delicious seafood dish. So is braised prawn with oil (油焖大虾). Soft and fragrant duck (香酥鸭), crystal pork elbow slices (水晶肘子), and crispy deep-fried pork balls (焦溜丸子) are also considered classic dishes of Shandong cuisine. Average spending is above 200 yuan per person. 11am-2pm, 5-9pm. 83 Zhushikou Xidajie, Xuanwu District. 6303-2828. 宣武区珠市口西大街83号 |
