[2008.7.31 ]The press conference was chaired by Huang Zecun, director of the Publicity Office of Shandong Provincial Party Committee and of the Information Office of Shandong Provincial People`s Government.

[2008.7.31 ]Huang Zecun: Good afternoon, friends from the media, ladies and gentlemen. When the whole nation is happily welcoming the Beijing Olympic Games, the Fourth Friendly Provincial and State Leaders` Summit will be held in Jinan from 5 to 7 August.

[2008.7.31 ]Huang Zecun:At present, all preparations for the summit have been basically completed. Today, we hold a provincial government press conference and have invited Mr. Zhang Jigang, deputy director and spokesman of the Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, to give us a briefing on the related matters and answer journalists` questions.

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: Good afternoon, friends from the media, ladies and gentlemen. I take this opportunity to give you a briefing on the forthcoming Friendly Provincial and State Leaders` Summit, with a view to attract the attention, support and participation of people of various circles.

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: The Friendly Provincial and State Leaders` Summit is a multilateral meeting mechanism between the economically strong provinces and states of China, Germany, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Austria, and South Africa, and is an important platform for deepening and expanding the bilateral and  multilateral cooperation between the friendly cities. According to the principle of the summit members hosting the meeting in rotation, our province will host the fourth summit this year.

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: The summit is scheduled to be held in Jinan from August 5 to 7 and its major activity is the leaders` summit held in Shandong Mansions on the 7th, when the leaders present will express their views on matters of common concern such as building a conservation-oriented society and cooperation in medical care and health.

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: The list of people to attend the summit have been decided on and 114 officials, experts, entrepreneurs will attend the meeting, including Canadian governor of Quebec al-Shara and his wife, American governor of Georgia Perdue, Austrian governor of Upper Austria Springer, the German federal state of Bavaria and the European Union Affairs Minister.

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: During the summit, secretary Jiang Yikang and governor Jiang Daming will attend leader` multilateral meeting on the 6th, and the provincial and state leaders will hold bilateral meetings. On the afternoon of July 7th, the leaders will jointly hold a press conference in the International Hall of Shandong Mansions and jointly sign "The Declaration of the Fourth Friendly Provincial and State Leaders` Summit." 

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: The summit will also hold two symposiums on "Construction of a conservation- oriented society" and "Medical Care and Health" and an economic and trade conference. During the summit, the Canadian province of Quebec and our province will sign the agreement to establish friendly relations between the province and the state.

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: The Friendly Provincial and State Leaders`Summit is a mechanism of long-term cooperation. Centering round this session of the summit, our province will host the following multilateral activities in the next two years:

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: (1) inviting the provinces`and states` delegations to attend Shandong Province`s Industry-Academy-Research and New Energy-saving Technology Exhibition, 

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: (2) carrying out exchange activities of architectural energy saving and new building material projects and on-the-spot inspections, 

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: (3) holding a conference on the development of technology for recycling economy,

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: (4) holding an exhibition of biopharmaceutical technology, 

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: (5) holding an academic conference on the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, and 

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: (6) holding a conference on the experience in building the system of public health.

[2008.7.31 ]Zhang Jigang: The summit will be the provincial party committee and the provincial government`s major measure to expand opening-up to the outside world. We hope that friends from the media will give an extensive publicity and coverage to the summit to provide strong support of public opinion for the summit.
