Weihai: Two giant pandas were officially introduced to visitors at Rongcheng’s Xixiakou Wild Animal Zoo in Shandong province on September 7. "The two four-year-old pandas are named Xianzi and Jingjing. Weighing more than 100 kg, they are both males," said Xia Xiaosong, vice-director of Xixiakou Wild Animal Zoo. After a 15 hour journey, the two “national treasures” from Ya’an Conservation Zone, Sichuan province, arrived at their destination on September 2, according to the zoo. The Xixiakou Wild Animal Zoo is China’s largest village-level wild animal zoo and is capable of raising and treating a variety of wild animals. A panda pavilion with subsidiary facilities, including trees, ponds and playgrounds, has been built in order to hold the distinguished guests. The zoo also bought 70 acres of bamboo groves in Rongcheng and Wendeng and planted 30 acres of bamboo in order to feed the pandas. |
