China`s Supreme People`s Court reviewed Wen`s case and approved his execution earlier. The case has once riveted the whole nation.
Wen, 54, the former head of the judiciary department of Chongqing and also an ex-deputy police chief of the city, was sentenced to death in April for charges including rape, bribery, and protecting an underground criminal gang.
Wen`s conviction brought to a climax a crime crackdown that lifted the lid on the seamy underworld in the mega-city of more than 30 million of Chongqing, and has resulted in more than 3,300 detentions and hundreds of prosecutions.
